I met Mary Harwell Sayler at a Christian Writer’s Conference in Titusville, Florida. She was speaking about writing novels and poetry and I was fascinated. She had so much experience and, as I discovered, so much expertize as a writer that I wanted to know more of what she knew

A kind of funny thing happened that in a small way started an ongoing student/teacher relationship as well as a personal friendship. Mary mentioned from the speaker’s podium that she had left her watch at home, so I stopped by our big store and got one that cost very little. Mary was gracious, as she always is, and made me feel as if I had given her something wonderful.

From there I discovered that she would take me as a private student and so many years I drove to DeLand once a month, where she lived. We talked and talked and got to know and care for each other. She quickly became my favorite teacher as well as my favorite poet. I haven’t missed one of her publications, and I appreciate them all.

I particularly enjoy Mary’s newest book of poetry, Faces in the Crowd, I identify with every line. The poems are full of humor, understanding, and pathos. They let me feel and apprehend what she is talking about. I identify with each one as if Mary had been looking into my life, and yet I believe every poem comes from a place of empathy and experience in Mary’s life, too. Her poems showed me how connected we humans are and how much we have in common with each other.

One thing I love about poetry is the insight, or epiphany that should come with every poem. Mary excels at making words pictures as well as at drawing deep meaning from every one. I’m so happy to be able to read her work and I’ll be reading Faces in the Crowd over and over again for a long time to come.

Meditation Musing~A Note From Jesus

Under the Sea

A Note From Jesus by DiVoran Lites

Beloved,

Keep on trusting Our Father, and Me. We are the real motivation, inspiration, and power in your life. Keep on doing your best to stay healthy, wealthy, and wise. We hear your prayers and we answer.

My child, just as you enjoy homes and rooms and beautiful interiors. We enjoy homes in our children. They are exquisitely decorated. Think of a visit to a coral reef with all its color and natural glories your interior is more beautiful than that to us.

Know too that when your job on earth is finished, we have a beautiful place for you. In that place you have perfect freedom in every way. You have dear friends, Us among them, you have initiative and talent. You are more joyful, yet more peaceful than you have ever been in your life.

Here and now, you taste of these qualities, but sometimes the gravity of anxiety pulls you down. You are like a SCUBA diver whose weights are so heavy that they keep pulling you onto the beautiful, but sharp coral.

We must say, Dear, you were never equipped to carry such heavy weights. Give them to us and we will carry them. We will buoy you up and see that you get the oxygen you need.

When you do come to us for your fabulous eternity you will have no weights on you at all. It is even is possible for you to live in a light-filled, lightly weighted world here and now. Think of all the good things you have and that we have already done for you. Know that there are things you cannot change. Turn them over to us and find the treasure chest of jewels we have in store for you.

Beloved,

You received me, allowed me into your life, welcomed my Holy Spirit to live in you, and trusted what my Son did to earn forgiveness for your Sin. You gave me permission to do what I always wanted to do which was to put everything in order for you. You opened your doors and windows to me, and I opened doors and windows to you. We are together in the wide open spaces of my Spirit and the sunshine of my grace and glory. Stand tall, shout your praises. No matter how you feel, I always hear you, and I always respond to your prayers.

Meditation Musing~Your Choice

My Dear Child,

Sometimes you suddenly realize that you’re going the wrong way. Perhaps you see that your motive isn’t clear or that your attitude is unproductive. That is when you know you’ve been veering onto the rebel way. Don’t allow this process of conviction, which is a good thing, to start you down the slippery slope of guilt and self-pity, which is the biggest possible waste of life. The deeper you go into negative thinking, the harder it is to back out. Don’t dwell on making things right with everyone. I will guide you well in My own time and in My own way and you will be astonished at what I do for you and for them.

Get back with Me as soon as possible. The need for confession came from me. I’m on the case, and I will steer you right, if you will let me. Don’t try to figure things out on your own. Even though you are a temple for My Spirit, you are yet human. Christian maturity is different from human maturity. In human maturity you become more independent, in my Kingdom you become increasingly dependent on Me.

As soon as you see your trespass face it and let me help you. Acknowledge that you have been forgiven ever since I died to atone for all Sin. But if you wish to feel forgiven then forgive everyone who has ever offended or hurt you. Know, too, that because I have been gracious enough to uncover your error, I am already nudging you back onto the joy path and giving you the strength to proceed. As you travel you’ll find new adventures and trials, but you will get in the habit of letting Me handle them with you. My joy and strength awaits.

“The joy of the lord is my strength.”
