I originally wrote the story of Jessie as a single novel in my Coastal Chronicles series. I thought the story of Jessie would be covered in a single novel. Jessie had other plans and would not stop nagging me (typical of Jessie) until I agreed to tell the rest of his story. If you have read Jessie, there is no need to purchase Undaunted as the story remains the same. I hope you enjoy Destiny’s Call.
A family in crisis, a boy with big dreams. Coming of age in the 1960s.

“In the beginning, man blew up a bunch or rockets”
The morning Alan Shepherd rocketed into the sky to become the first American astronaut in space, changed everything for Jessie Cole, a 10-year-old boy living in the shadow of America’s fledgling space program.
“One day, I am going to ride one of those rockets,” he declares to his skeptical brothers. Jessie, determined and passionate about his dream, falls prey to disillusionment as his family life disintegrates at the hand of their alcoholic and abusive father. How can he concentrate on future hopes with so many changes in his daily life?
Jessie’s always been the dreamer, but will his dreams be strong enough to launch him out of poverty and into space as his high hopes battle harsh reality?
“I truly did love this read. The comradery shared amongst his brothers was more than amazing. I can only imagine the life in that time…being a mother working 3 jobs in a house with 4 teenage sons. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a feel-good story.”
“This book is a flashback to what we believe was a simpler time, but we get see through Jessie eyes that there was never a gentler time. Memories are seen through rose-colored glasses, and life is tough no matter what era we grow up in.”
“In Jessie, Rebekah Lyn takes the larger-than-life story of NASA’s space race and brings it down to earth by telling it through the eyes of one teenage boy who dreams of becoming an astronaut.”
“The core value and innocence of the era were captured very well. Kudos go out to Ms. Lyn on the ability to take your research and create the life and times of Jessie Cole.”
Excerpts from Goodreads Reviews
“Jessie surprised and delighted me. What started out as a simple boy’s dream emerged into a deep historical, emotional and spiritual journey sweeping through the sixties in NASA crazed Eastern Florida”
“I loved the way Jessie learned to survive and the relationship he had with his brothers was incredible. They really watched out for one another. I loved the positive male influences that Jessie had in his life.”
Excerpts from Barnes and Noble Reviews
“Jessie was a delightful change of pace for me and a very refreshing read. This coming-of-age story was steeped in the history and constant stream of change that is characteristic of the 60’s. This book holds a true sense of authenticity as it takes you on a nostalgic journey to the past.”
” I loved watching him grow, mature, and focus. I felt that these experiences, even Vietnam, were very true to history and the story progressed in a very realistic way.”
Undaunted is available on most major retailers
“Forgiveness and determination will be required to make his career and relationship work.”
Jessie Cole has relentlessly pursued his dream of becoming a member of the elite American astronaut corps. Now, an officer in the U.S. Navy and an ace pilot, he can almost taste success.
The distraction of love is not a part of his plan as he fights his attraction to not one, but two beautiful redheads and one of them vehemently opposes his dream.
The third book in the trilogy has a working title of Legacy Achieved . Destiny’s Call took two years to research, write and edit. Since I am continuing the research I did for Destiny’s Call, I hope to release Legacy Achieved by Christmas 2019.
I have compiled a list of books I read to research this series. If you find space fascinating as I do, you can visit my research page.
