Janet has been called lots of things: a committed Christian, passionate Latina, motivational speaker, an excuse eraser, an inspiration, radio host, life coach, master interpreter and best-selling author. But she calls herself a blind, sort of bold chica who trusts God for triumph. Here at Rebekah Lyn Books we call her “friend” and are delighted she is joining us.
At age thirty-one a retinal disease robbed her,her sight but blindness was only the beginning of her encounter with adversity. Years after, she endured the murder of her son and the acquittal of the man responsible. But rather than living in a mess of misery with bitterness, sorrow and anger, she learned the secret to freedom. Freedom to claim a life of success, triumph and joy. God opened doors she never, ever dreamed.
First, the new confidence found in His Word gave her the security and courage to pursue a career as a Spanish interpreter. Fueled by passion to overcome, she became the first certified blind court Spanish interpreter in Florida. She was thrilled to receive the assignation of “Master Interpreter” issued for successfully completing 10,000 hours of over-the-phone interpretation.
To date, 23 of her stories appear in the Chicken Soup for the Soul best-selling titles as well as Guidepost Magazine, fifteen anthologies and her own books including Amazon best seller Simply Salsa-Dancing Without Fear at God’s Fiesta. You will find a complete listing of her books on her author page HERE.
When her fingers aren’t dancing on the keyboard, She is packing her suitcase and heading across the U.S. and other countries, addressing corporate and faith-based groups. In addition to writing and speaking, Janet is also a Life Coach. She leans on God to conduct her radio show, Sweet Talk with Janet and Heather. Together they impart insights from God’s Word, from real life episodes and insights. They broadcast inspiration and encouragement to their listeners every third Tuesday of the month.
In her free time Janet loves to Salsa, enjoys gourmet food, to sail on cruise ships, and play on the floor with her two grandchildren. She delights in spending time with Gene, her hubby of 38 years, and finds joy in the fact that her Mom and Dad, 85 and 87 respectively, live with them. And they’re healthy and still pretty peppy.
Best of all, Janet is a joyful lover of God. He inspires her to inspire us.
