What seeds are you planting in your heart

It was my turn to have my bags searched at the Habana, Cuba airport. “This is fresh fruit,” the customs agent said as he pulled out my small bag of organic apples. “You cannot bring these into the country.”

I bit my lower lip. What was I thinking?

The reason they’re illegal? Neither the peel nor the pulp is a threat, but it’s the apples’ seeds that pose the concern. They can bring contamination into the country.

Like you and I, the outer appearance has no influence, but the seed we carry in our heart either contaminates our days with negativity or makes us grow in a rich way.

What seeds are you planting in your heart lately?

Recently, I was privileged to bring a message of inspiration to a Hispanic congregation. At the moment when I shared that my vision had closed in completely, as planned, a person turned off all the lights. In chorus, the church gasped.

As I spoke with some attendees, the most prevalent comment was this: “We couldn’t wait for the lights to come back on. It was an uncomfortable feeling not to be able to see.”

“Sure is,” I said. “Life stinks when we can’t see. But more so when we cannot see God’s hand working in our lives, what He’s providing, and the miracles He performs each moment.”

BTW, your ability to read this is only one of your many miracles.

You Won’t Believe This

You won’t believe what happened this week over sixty years ago. My Mom was in labor in La Paz, Bolivia and Gene, my hubby’s Mom was also in labor but in St. Louis Missouri.

Both moms gave birth. Gene was born 12 hours before me. And how could a girl born in the Andes and a boy born at the shores of the Mississippi River meet and end up married 40 years? I think it’s God’s plan…or maybe His sense of humor!

Humbled Beyond Words

I was honored to be one of the nominees for the Girl Scouts of Citrus 2016 Woman of Distinction Award. The gala event was impressive and the dinner delicious. The MC began announcing the winners and as I was munching on the cookie for dessert, I nearly choked when she called out my name as the winner in the Visionary and Courage category.

I was humbled beyond words with gratitude because the award holds these criteria:

The Visionary Award recognizes the woman with a courageous spirit, imagination, insight and boldness. She is an agent of change who sees the big picture and thinks of others first. She inspires people to achieve higher goals by modeling a clear vision, empowering relationships and supporting innovative actions.
