To make matters worse, when she prays for guidance, she’s answered with a challenge instead: To encourage her friend to find a wife—whether he wants one or not.

Excerpt

The remainder of the school day went by without incident and when the other children were dismissed, Jeremiah pulled out his blank essay paper and started scribbling furiously. Ruth sorted her desk and stacked everything for easy grabbing. Then she read through each essay again, making suggestions and corrections to each.

“Done,” Jeremiah announced five minutes later.

“Bring them both up here, please,” Ruth said without looking up. She finished reading an essay before looking at him and taking the two pieces of paper from him. She scanned the page Jeremiah handed her. After a minute, she handed the essay back to him. “Read it out loud to me, please.”

Jeremiah cleared his throat and opened his mouth. He tilted his head and closed his mouth, staring at the page for a few seconds. “Do you have another piece of paper?”

Ruth bit her cheeks to keep the smile off her face and opened the drawer to her left. She pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to him.

Jeremiah took it and sulked back to his desk, writing more carefully this time.

While he rewrote the essay, Ruth read the note to Grace and smiled. At least he’d taken more time with this. When Jeremiah came back a few minutes later, Ruth handed him the note.

“This is very well done. You can give it to her tomorrow.” Ruth picked up the new essay and read it. “This is much better. Thank you, Jeremiah.” She placed it on her stack and picked up the stack.

About the Author

Author Picture 2015-2016 b

Faith Blum started writing at an early age. She started even before she could read! She even thought she could write better than Dr. Seuss. (The picture doesn’t show it well, but there are scribblings on the page of Green Eggs and Ham). Now that she’s grown up a little more, she knows she will probably never reach the success of Dr. Seuss, but that doesn’t stop her from trying.
When she isn’t writing, Faith enjoys doing many right-brained activities such as reading, crafting, writing, playing piano, and playing games with her family. One of her dreams is to visit Castle City, Montana someday to see the ghost town she chose for her characters to live in. She currently lives on a hobby farm with her family in Wisconsin.

An Ordinary Knight

An Ordinary Knight

Now available for pre-order, a new Tween Fairy Tale in the spirit of Ella Enchanted and The Goose Girl. Click below to pre-order on Amazon.

A Note From Author H. L. Burke

Debuting on November 9th, An Ordinary Knight will be on a special pre-order price of 99 cents!
This piece is very near to my heart as an author. This is actually one of my older stories, written well before my currently published books. As a new adult struggling with loneliness, I asked myself, “Well, what is the love story I really want to have?” and from that desire sprang a story of a knight who isn’t flashy, isn’t particularly “charming,” but who has the qualities I so desperately wanted in a life partner: loyalty, honor, kindness. Because while super-human characters are fun to imagine, what really makes a character extraordinary are often the very ordinary things.
I was lucky enough to find my one true love shortly after writing this piece. We’re coming up on our 9th anniversary this year, and my Marine is every inch the Knight I was looking for.
I’ve now polished up this dream of a perfect knight to share with my readers, and I’m so excited to share it with you.

A Fairy Cursed Fable

The Knight and the Fugitive Princess/Knight Less-Charming/Charming Quest: Fairy Cursed Fables book One (still up in the air about that title)…
Stuck in a humiliating position as the Royal Kennel Guard, Sir Percy sees little hope for anything other than an obscure fate. After all, in the Kingdom of Ithelia, you need a fairy to guide you to greatness, and fairies just don’t bother with knights like him.
However, when Percy catches the eyes of the sheltered Princess Matilda, his world expands in new and frightening ways.
A victim of an ill-planned Christening, Matty has spent her life in a locked tower, hiding from pixie attacks. Now she’ll do anything to escape. And if that means dragging Percy along for a cross country search for Prince Charming, so be it.
But not all Prince Charmings are what they seem, and as Matty’s plight grows more desperate, Percy finds himself losing his heart. Does a lowly knight have what it takes to uncurse a princess?

A Christmas Banquet~A Mountain Man’s Redemption

Christmas Banquet

Today marks the kick-off of our Christmas Banquet!

We only have 56 days to feast before the big day arrives so let’s get started!

A Mountain Man’s Redemption by Christi Corbett.

Christi, tell us why you chose to set your book during the Christmas season.

Christi Corbett: A Mountain Man’s Redemption takes place the week before Christmas, 1886. Hannah is looking for a new beginning, both for herself and her infant son. She is desperate to escape the dangerous life she’s trapped within, but to do so she must risk all and travel seventy miles across the rugged Montana Territory to her aunt’s house, a place of safety and childhood Christmas memories and traditions.

I chose to set Hannah’s story at Christmastime because it’s a time of forgiveness, hope, and new beginnings. Hannah needs all those things to survive the dangerous journey she faces, so I thought it appropriate to set it during the week before Christmas.

Back Cover Copy for A Mountain Man’s Redemption

COVER A Mountain Man's Redemption FINAL VERSIONEighteen years ago, Philip Grant—overcome with regret for what he couldn’t foresee and memories of what he couldn’t prevent—abandoned all to live the solitary life of a fur trapper. Years spent roaming ridgelines and riverbanks in Montana Territory left his body weary and his confidence weak, so he decides to turn in his last bundle of furs and await the inevitable in a cabin. Alone.

Then a body-shaped lump wrapped in a quilt changes everything.

Philip discovers a battered woman and her infant son, on the run from a ruthless abuser with a penchant for whiskey. Seventy miles of snow-covered mountain peaks and windswept flatlands stand between them and safety—the woman’s aunt’s house.

Can Philip trust in his newfound faith to lead the way?
