Synchronicities in Life

Join Me on my Potato Couch

I learned the word synchronicity when I started studying the concept of creativity. I’ve probably given it some added meaning over the years of being acquainted with it. To me, a synchronicity is a simultaneous, coincidental, serendipitous happening engineered by God. It’s always a thrill to experience one.Once when Bill and I were walking in Honolulu we got into acres of identical apartment houses and couldn’t find our way out. No soul disturbed our frantic ramblings. We stopped to try to make sense of our map, and suddenly there was a woman showing us how to get back to our car. We didn’t watch her walk away, so maybe this should go under angel sightings, but we never saw another person in that entire complex. We found our car and were on our way to the next adventure.

Another time we went to visit my aunt in the old hometown. We’d been to her house many times, but usually someone who knew how to get there was with us. This time we couldn’t remember how to get to the neighborhood where it was. We had no cell phones back then. We stopped at a filling station for gas, and guess what? My aunt pulled up right behind us in her car. We filled the tank and followed her home. Explain that if you can. No, it wasn’t someone seeing us and telling her we were there, it just wasn’t that small of a town.

This last Friday we were meeting our son for lunch, but he wanted us first to meet him at the car rental where he was to turn in a car his company had rented. We tried to follow his directions, but we became turned around and then made several more turns until we weren’t sure which way to go. Yes, we have a Garmin, but we didn’t think we’d need it. We stopped at a red light, and zoom, our son went by directly in front of us. The light changed and we followed him right into the parking lot of the car rental.

Today, after church service, one of the faithful servants had all the doors locked when I came back to the Sunday school room. One of the little boys in my Sunday school class (no one else was around except him and me) needed to use the men’s room. The entrance is on the outside, and I needed to get back inside. Right then before the two of us could discuss what to do we heard the nearby kitchen door lock. I knocked, the door opened, I asked if the boy could use the facilities, and the faithful servant stepped out to unlock the door for him while I slipped into the building.

It’s possible to take these little things for granted, but once you start looking for them they are so much fun. They speak of a loving, Heavenly Father who knows everything large and small that is going on in our lives. They are like love drops, gifts from the Spirit that say, “Hey there, I see you, I know you, I love you.” Isn’t He good?

Matthew 10:29-31

New International Version (NIV)

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30 And, even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows
